InternationalInternational Harvester was created from a 1902 merger of McCormick Harvesting Machine Co. and Deering Harvester. Over the next 75 years, the company diversified from farm equipment to on-road vehicles, construction equipment, rifles and jet engines. In the mid 1960s, International expanded its light-truck line to include the crew cab Traveler and the famed Scout.
In the 1980s, International exited most of its ventures, including the passenger vehicle and agricultural equipment markets, and began to focus exclusively on commercial vehicles. That transition culminated with the renaming of International Harvester to Navistar International Corporation in 1986.
Today, International Truck and Engine Corp. is comprised of more than 1,000 dealerships in North America and has outlets in 90 countries throughout the world.
